Exploring History Through Math: Traveling Miss T. at Rosie the Riveter WWII Home Front National Historical Park

Natalie Teboul

In celebration of Women's History Month in March of 2026, Natalie Teboul, aka Traveling Miss T. went on a site visit to Rosie the Riveter World War II Home Front National Historical Park in Richmond, California.

Bringing the Home Front to Life

The park tells the story of the millions of Americans who contributed to the war effort during World War II. Not on the battlefield, but on the home front. From shipbuilding to social change, this site highlights the resilience, diversity, and determination of a generation. Specifically highlighting the important role of women.

In collaboration with Rosie the Riveter Trust, Traveling Miss T. created a free field trip by Coordinate Plane to reimagine how students experience this history. The Trust’s mission to celebrate stories of sacrifice, opportunity, and social change while inspiring modern-day connections, aligns perfectly with Traveling Miss T.’s goal of making learning interactive, interdisciplinary, and impactful.

Math Meets History: An Adventure by Coordinate Plane

Through Traveling Miss T.’s signature Math Maps, students will explore the park by Coordinate Plane. Each landmark within the park becomes a plotted point, turning a visit into a dynamic math journey. As students navigate from one coordinate to another, they simultaneously uncover stories of the past.

This innovative approach not only reinforces key math skills like graphing, ordered pairs, and spatial reasoning—it also deepens students’ understanding of history by placing them directly on a map.

Working alongside the Rosie the Riveter Trust ensures that this project is not only educational but also authentic and respectful of the site’s legacy. The Trust’s dedication to historic preservation and educational programming brings depth and credibility to the Math Maps developed.

Together, this partnership created a resource that supports teachers with ready-to-use, standards-aligned materials, engages students across multiple subject areas, and honors the legacy of the home front in a meaningful, modern way!
